Associate Gas Engineer | Wixom, MI

Job Type: Full-Time Position

Position Summary:

KLE is seeking Associate Engineers to join our growing Wixom, Michigan Office. The Associate Engineer may be required to perform activities such as cost estimating, field measurements, preparation and correction of field drawings, ordering material, initiation of permits, preparing operating and maintenance instructions, data analysis, compilation and reporting of technical data and performance of other related duties.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks: 

  • With minimal supervision perform a variety of duties including but not limited to the following:

  • Collect data and gather information or documents

  • Perform standard computations and analysis

  • Perform basic design tasks

  • Prepare drawings and visual aids

  • Assist on other tasks such as: preparation of material specification/selection, technical reports, plans and procedures, drawings, permit applications, project documentation, and computer aided design (CAD) work

  • Acquire basic knowledge and develop skills in assigned workstreams

  • Apply prescribed techniques and procedures in accordance with established KLE, industry and client standards, specifications, and processes to perform assigned tasks

  • Perform routine technical work not requiring previous experience

  • Acquire understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities

  • Exercise limited judgment on details of work and in application of standard methods for conventional work

  • Demonstrate sound engineering judgment

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering

  • 0-2 years relevant work experience

  • Engineer-In-Training Certification (Desired)

  • Working knowledge of CAD and GIS software (Desired)

Utility Pole Designer | Wixom, MI

Position Summary:

KLE is seeking full-time candidates to perform detailed design of overhead and/or underground electric distribution systems. This work includes the review of field notes and preparation of drawings, specifications and estimates as defined by the client’s scope of work document. The Designer may be responsible to provide direction, training, supervision, and guidance of other design staff of equal or lower grade as directed by supervision.

 

This position will be a hybrid of office-based and remote work. This position may require some travel for training purposes.  

Key Responsibilities & Tasks: 

  • With minimal supervision perform a variety of design related duties including but not limited to the following:

  • Design and prepare independently, construction orders related to overhead, underground facilities associated with electric distribution systems applying prescribed standards, guides, specifications, and procedures.

  • Preparation of field notes and design.

  • Preparation of computer assisted design and construction drawings of a complex nature with neatness and a minimum of errors.

  • Perform design services requiring a full understanding of drawings, specifications, and industry and company standards covering the assigned work.

  • Take a major role in the preparation of cost estimates, specifications, evaluation, and requisitions.

  • Preparation of engineering calculations (pole loading, guying, transformer sizing, conductor loading/sagging, load studies, voltage studies).

  • Coordinate design development to meet project schedules.

  • Provide training and technical support for other distribution design classifications.

  • Achieve weekly billable goal as defined by the project guidelines.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Associate Degree in technical or design field preferred

  • Knowledgeable and proficient in utility electric distribution design standards

  • Management may consider other education and work experience to be acceptable for appointment to this position.

  • Zero (0) to (3) years of electric distribution utility experience in overhead and underground design required, including construction drawing preparation, pole loading calculations, secondary voltage calculations, distribution transformer loading.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license + clean driving record.

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.

  • Must be able to complete a satisfactory background check.

  • Must have a high school diploma.

Desired Skills: 

  • Knowledge of the practices and procedures pertaining to overhead and underground Electrical Distribution design

  • Proficient use and knowledge of computers and software applications desired (MS Office products).

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD or other pole loading software

Electric Field Technician | Full Time Travel

Job Location: ​Various Locations Across United States

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Perform various field technical services for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems including system inventories, equipment locating, facility damage assessment, joint use management, pad-mount inspections, ground-line pole inspections, metering and apparatus services, lighting audits, etc. 

  • Perform field data collection utilizing a laptop computer, tablet device, GPS, and other electronic devices for input into database software as necessary. 

  • Develop a working knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), electric utility construction standards, and telephone, cable and other communication facilities. 

  • Operate necessary equipment to take measurements on utility poles and mid-span facilities, perform pole inspections, inspect and perform maintenance on pad-mount equipment, etc. 

  • Achieve weekly production goals as defined by the project guidelines. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

  • Present ideas effectively in formal and informal situations.  

  • Communicate well with customers and the public, using curteousy . Keep supervisor and coworkers informed. Share complete and accurate information with others.  

Facility Understanding:

  • Analytical competence to interact with variety of individuals including engineers and experienced distribution system designers. 

  • Possess the working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), national engineering standards, utility constructions standards, and best industry engineering practices. 

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel is primarily regional to the utility client(s) territory with overnight travel to be expected for 100% of the work schedule. 

  • Company vehicle and fuel card provided.  

Qualifications + Education:

Electric Power Project Manager | Wixom, MI

Position Summary:

KLE is seeking full-time candidates who are experienced in utility construction project management to join our growing company and manage electric distribution, substation and transmission projects in Michigan and other regions in the midwest and east coast. The position requires a strong technical background, project management skills and experience, a solid reputation of building and maintaining key client relationships and a strong interest in business development. The position will focus on reviewing electric power construction work to ensure contractors are meeting project standards, maintaining project schedule, and staying within project budget.

 

This position will be a hybrid of office-based and project travel. This position may require some travel for project coordination and site walks  

Key Responsibilities & Tasks: 

  • Plan all phases of electric distribution, substation and/or transmission project lifecycles from initiation to completion.

  • Ensure contractor compliance with project plans and specifications as well as permit conditions and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Work with project team to develop and execute value engineering ideas during the design phase

  • Develop bid documents for work scope with project team members and negotiate construction contracts

  • Communicate with contractors and clients to deliver project status updates.

  • Develop and monitor contractor adherence to project budget, schedule, and quality control plan.

  • Collaborates with engineers, materials sourcing, contract management, land and environmental management, construction contractors, and other subject matter experts.

  • Report to senior management teams on project progress, potential risks and help needed

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • 4+ Years of relevant experience required

  • Experienced with managing power line construction work preferred

  • Possess strong communication skills

  • Willingness to travel

  • Ability to build strong relationships with coworkers, clients, and contractors.

  • Excels at organization, time-management, problem-solving, and budgeting.

  • Physically able to perform the essential functions of the position, including hiking with safety gear in cold and hot weather conditions

Desired Skills: 

  • PE or PMP preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field preferred
