Corporate Accountant
Wixom, Michigan

POSITION SUMMARY

The experienced Accountant will be accountable for overseeing financial reporting and job cost accounting in a project-driven environment. This role is responsible for managing the monthly close process, maintaining accurate work-in-progress reporting, supporting revenue recognition, and ensuring the integrity of project financials. The Accountant will work closely with project managers and leadership to oversee core bookkeeping functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and reconciliations, ensuring accurate, timely reporting that supports sound financial management and compliance.


OVERVIEW OF DUTIES

The successful Accountant will be expected to:

Manage Monthly Close Process and Monthly/Annual Financial Reporting

  • Reconcile bank accounts

  • Reconcile credit card accounts

  • Reconcile job cost reports

  • Prepare financial statements and review with leadership

  • Oversee annual financial reviews and tax planning, compliance, and reporting (in coordination with external CPA firm)


Ensure accurate and timely job cost accounting and monthly job performance reporting

  • Produce monthly work-in-progress schedules

i. Validate (and correct as necessary) the allocation of labor, equipment, and materials to jobs

ii. Calculate and report revenue recognition

iii. Track backlog

  • Provide insight into performance trends

i. Assist the project managers with identifying cost overruns

ii. Monitor job profitability, comparing estimates to actual and identifying fade early in project life

iii. Identify underbillings and overbillings


Accounts Receivable

  • Manage AR aging, escalating receiving issues as appropriate

  • Monitor billing status and provide regular billing updates to project managers and company leadership

  • Reconcile billed amounts vs. earned revenue


Accounts Payable

  • Process vendor invoices

  • Validate that costs are coded properly to projects


Payroll

  • Support the weekly payroll process

  • Track labor burden (taxes, workers' comp, fringe)


Support annual budget development and goal setting

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong organizational and communication skills and attention to detail

  • Clear and timely communication internally and externally, with a collaborative nature

  • Familiarity with working within an ERP

  • Eagerness to learn and grow with the company

  • Problem-solving and analytical capability with a bias to action

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 5 years of experience providing accounting services for an engineering, construction, or related industry
